Neurophysiological basis for brain computer interfaces

The challenge

Advances from the mechanical and software perspective brought the field of neural interfaces better batteries, sophisticated recording devices, more and more efficient ways to blindly reading the data collected by these devices (AI), but despite hundreds of millions of investments, the field of neural interfaces has not achieved any breakthrough, its main results being the same as almost twenty years ago. The approach that has been used so far to ignore for the most part the actual integration with the neural tissue has not payed off.

The solution

Investigating the ways in which a neural interface does become active part of the activity of the neural tissue it is coupled with. This will allow to estimate clear the limits of current technology, and suggest where we need to aim to make real advancements.
